Carefully milled from reclaimed city hardwoods, this exquisite beech (or hickory) wood bench radiates a primal yet elegant allure. Incorporating rescued hardwood logs, the bench highlights the understated grain and texture of each variety in its sleek and armless construction. Indulge in rustic opulence with this unique masterpiece.
American colonists used the beech leaves as stuffing in their mattresses and pillows. Hickory belongs to the walnut family, is prevalent in the Hickory Pine and Central Hardwood forests of Birmingham. It is the hardest domestic wood species according to the Janka hardness scale.
The 12" x 12" beam is milled and finished to sit raised by a mild steel base to 17" high with a black patina. The knife beam bench can be fabricated to order, in a variety of lengths.
A low sheen, clear urethane finish adds an extra layer of protection to this already durable wood. These are NOT appropriate for outdoor use. These pair well with other items from our beam bench collection.

With the finish used on the knife base and hickory or beech wood, we do not recommend putting this bench outside, exposed to the elements.
Note on Materials: Cracks are part of the rustic beauty of these pieces. If the finish cracks or chips, you may see some raw walnut underneath. You may notice differences from piece to piece or to images on the website or between samples received. There is no stain, so the color may vary. This is a quality of natural wood. The knots and fine cracks that you may see will not cause structural deficiencies as they are an organic aspect of the wood. We view these elements not as flaws, but as reminders of the tree from which each piece is born. Natural materials will age over time and with exposure to the elements—the more exposure, the quicker they will age. Expansion and contraction due to temperature variability may occur. They will age with integrity when cared for appropriately.
